Hi!
My name is Gwen. I’m 22 years old and graduated last year with a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine from Maastricht University. In my free time, I love staying active—going for walks, being creative, shopping, and of course enjoying a drink on a sunny terrace. I’ve been playing field hockey for over 15 years now, which is still a big part of my life.
At the moment, I’m taking a gap year and working as a medical assistant at Poort van Gaveren, a role I truly enjoy. Ever since I was young, I’ve dreamed of becoming a doctor. I find it incredibly meaningful to be there for people and to build genuine connections. For me, that’s not only about providing medical care, but also about the small things—simply asking how someone is doing or how their day has been.
My time at Poort van Gaveren has been very valuable and educational, and I’m sure it will help me a lot during my clinical rotations, which I’ll be starting next academic year. I’m keeping my options open when it comes to my future, but for now I’ve always said I’d love to become a pediatrician or pediatric oncologist.
From May onwards, I’ll be traveling through Asia for four months while doing volunteer work—something I’m really excited about. All in all, this year is filled with new and meaningful experiences, but above all, with many great memories.
